Bollywood Dancing: Lesson Four Review

SUMMARY
In this lesson, we performed our routines; Ms. Hainstock picked the one she liked the most and we all learned it. We also learnt the rest of the routine and aimed to perfect it.

WHAT WE DID EXACTLY
One by one we all performed our routine to the rest of the class. Ms Hainstock thought Rajan, Sanita and Rashna's Bhangra move was very interesting so we all learnt that and practised the whole routine again. Then we did the bouncy moving movement across the room in order to travel to our places and after that we finished off the routine. After this, we reharsed all of what we have learned and worked on the ending as weren'tsure how to end it. I personally thought, that our routine had a bit too much bhangra in it but I still tried my best. The only problem we were having was that some of us kept forgetting to clap after the 8 beats which made the routine look untidy however, we soon decided that it was best to leave it in and just carried on practising it by counting the beats in mind.

HARD/EASY PART
I think that, as a class, we found the "bouncy moving" movement hard becuase some of us were finding it difficult to bounce while moving and punch the air but after practising it, most of us knew how to do it properly. Most of us also found the "punch the air and clap after 8 beats" bit difficult because some of us kept forgeting to do the clap. However, I think we found the rest of the routine really easy and straight foward.

Bollywood Dancing: Lesson Three Reviev

SUMMARY
In this lesson we concentrated on developing further our routine by splitting up into groups of 3 and coming up with it ourselves.

WHAT WE DID EXACTLY
In this lesson, we started off by practising what we have learned so far; it took us sometime to get through it once from the beginning as people kept laughing. Once we were through that, we split up into groups of three ( I was with Adriana and Aaron); the task was to come up with the
moves for the next 8 beats of the song and we had the rest of the lesson to learn it. Adriana and i decided to take some moves from the song 'Dance Pa Chance'and some from 'Salam Namaste'. Unfortunately, although the steps were quite easy, Aaron struggled to learn them; So, we spent the rest of the lesson practising them.

HARD/ EASY
I really enjoyed the bit where we tried to choreograph an 8 beat dance routine because it was very interesting to see which moves fit in with each other and which didn't but it was a bit hard to teach them Aaron however, we think its because he didn't care, so he wasn't even trying.

Bollywood Dance: Lesson Two Review

SUMMARY
In this dance lesson, we added more steps to the dance and practiced the routine a few more times so that we all knew it off by heart. We also worked on our footwork and hand gestures with Ms Hainstock in order to perfect the routine so far.

WHAT EXACTLY WE DID
At the start of the lesson, we moved the tables and chairs to clear off the space in the room while Ms Hainstock found the Jai Ho dance video on youtube which we were learning off last lesson. Then, she helped us learn the rest of the moves that were shown; however, since a few of us struggled to get the hand - foot co ordination, she made us do "the jumping on the spot" (one of things we were struggling with) in partners, then made us do it a straight line formation and then we did it one by one in front of the class so that she could check all of us. After mastering that, we worked on the formation of the hands while dancing  ( what to do with them while dancing) so that the dance looks graceful and how we are meant to be looking at our hands while dancing to make it look more professional. We also learnt the rest of the moves the video showed by the help of Ms Hainstock who broke each step down further in order to teach us.
After practising it a few more times (as we kept going out of sink), she asked Ms Harris, Holly and Mrs Monito to join us so we showed them what we have learned so far and then taught them what we have learnt. Sara, Rajan and me started off by teaching them step by step, the way Ms Hainstock taught us, then Minazul and Jaydeep joined us too. Holly picked it up the fastest (probably because she used to do dancing) but Ms Harris and Mrs Monito did a great job too. They did it twice themselves and then in the third one, some of us joined them.
By the end of the lesson, we had mastered the first hand - foot co-ordination move, learnt the rest of first bit of the routine, taught 3 teachers how to do it  and then did it with them. At the end of the lesson, we put the tables and the chairs back but most of us were proud because we worked so hard and got so much done. I am so glad that I am doing this unit with such wonderful people who tried not to laugh when one of us messed up (although we still had a lot of banter!) , everyone was trying to encourage each other and helping each other out.

EASY AND DIFFICULT PARTS
I suppose the hand-foot-eye co ordination part of the routine was a bit hard but I didn't exactly find that difficult to learn (probably because I use to learn Bollywood and Street Dancing). I think, although the whole of the first bit was very straight forward, the hard part was to teach the teachers how to do it even though I knew what I was doing; maybe because I sometimes think that it is easier to learn than to teach.
I think the easiest part was learning the routine because it was so straight forward and ms Hainstock simplified it so much that it was easy to pick up; however, in order to improve, I think we really need to work on our timings.

Bollywood Dance Lesson One Review

We started off learning how to dance to a song called 'Say Om Shani Om' from the film ‘Om Shanti Om’. Miss Hainstock taught us some basic moves for example walking from side to side while pointing in the direction she told us. In the beginning it felt more like aerobics and the moves didn’t really make any sense with the song but when we did the whole thing again, it made sense! :D then a girl called Amera, who used to be miss Hainstock’s form and is apparently a professional bollywood dancer, took over and taught us some more moves to the this song. It didn’t exactly work because most of us just got confused but we got it after practicing twice so we did it twice then stopped. We relaxed and moaned for a few minutes while Ms. Hainstock looked for a different song however we realised that instead of finding a different song, she was searching for a ‘How to do a bollywood dance to any bollywood music’.
She found us a tutorial on how to dance to the song ‘Jai ho’.
The lady first showed us what the dance was going to be like when dancing to the music; then, she taught us the moves step by step, starting from legs then going onto hands. The moves were so simple that all of us were able to do it after the first try. After practicing it a couple of times with the music, we showed what we have learnt to Holly, Ms. Eyres and Ms. Harris and challenged them to do it. As they did not know the moves Rajan, Jaydeep and I  showed them how to do the steps step by step like we learnt them. When it was their turn to do it, except for ms. Harris, the rest of them got it. Then, Mr. Chapman came in and we showed them the dance and he attempted it to. This was an amazing media lesson and really fun too.
When we started the dance, I was feeling nervous as I am not too confident about dancing in front of other people; however, by the end of the lesson I was not feeling that shy because I realised that everyone was feeling nervous but were still doing it even if they weren’t too good at it. I also realised if they had the courage to do it then so should I. So I didn’t really care about performing in front of other people.
I found the whole thing easy as the dance moves were quite basic and I really enjoyed myself because I didn’t have to think much about it while dancing. However, the hardest part, which was not too hard but was quite challenging, was teaching the teachers how to do the dance mainly because in the beginning we were not sure how to explain them the moves however, once we got the hang of it, it was really easy.
I think learning from the youtube was much more successful then being taught by the two teachers because the lady on the video explained us step by step and it made more sense.
I think we worked really well as a group because we were all very supportive to each other and tried extremely hard not to laugh when the others were dancing although we did eventually cracked up; also, we were all helping each other out when one didn’t understand something and we were encouraging each other as well even if they were not good (not saying anyone was bad because everyone danced really well).

Introduction

This is our unit on performing arts where we will concentrate on two different styles of dance; Bollywood and Line Dancing. In this unit we will learn the social and historical context in the development of dance and dance styles, learn to choreograph a dance and review it.

Lessons are spilt up so that we can get everything done quickly and we can work on everything. With Ms. Hainstock we do the dancing and a dairy entry which is a review of that dance lesson including: what went well, what could be improved and what I learned. With Mrs. Eyres we work on scrap book and with Mr.Chapman, we work on these blogs which keeps our teachers up to date with what we have done.
